LOGAN, Utah (ABC4) — Utah State University issued a warning to students via email on Tuesday night after a student reported that they were sexually assaulted near the campus over the weekend.
According to the university, the student reported that the assault happened in the Logan City Cemetery on the evening of Sept. 22. The university said the cemetery is adjacent to the campus.
“The perpetrator was described as an unknown male, and a knife was used in the facilitation of the alleged crime,” the email to students read.
Officials with the Logan City Police Department confirmed the details provided by the university. The university did not provide additional information about the incident, but told the campus community that the notice included all the publicly available information at the time.
“It is never possible to completely eliminate the risk of becoming the target of a crime, and a crime is never the fault of the victim,” the university said.
In its email to students, the university reminded people to pay attention to their surroundings and report any suspicious behavior they may see. If students feel unsafe, they are encouraged to call 435-797-1939 or call 911.
Students were also reminded to call 911 immediately if criminal behavior in progress is seen. If students have experienced or witnessed sexual misconduct, they were reminded of the university’s Office of Equity.
There is no further information at this time.
