Man arrested for crime spree across Summit, Salt Lake and Utah Counties

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A Salt Lake City man was indicted last Monday after he reportedly committed crimes in three different counties, including allegedly stealing a car and a handgun.

Efrain Castillo, 42, was formally charged in the Third District Court with aggravated burglary; purchase, transfer, possession, or use of a firearm by a restricted person; theft of greater than $5,000; unlawful acquisition, possession or transfer of a financial transaction card; unlawful use of a financial transaction card; unlawful possession of another person’s identification documents; and interfering with a peace officer.

According to indictment documents, officials from Summit, Salt Lake, and Utah counties received calls stating that various items were stolen.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office stated that they received a call that a woman’s vehicle was stolen from an apartment complex.

In Salt Lake County, a residential burglary took place in the 4800 block of Damon Circle in Holladay where bank cards, a state ID, and a tracking device were stolen. In Utah County, a pistol was reportedly stolen from a car.

The tracking device was tracked to a Residence Inn in Murray where police located a possible suspect for the car that was stolen out of Summit County. Castillo reportedly barricaded himself in one of the rooms of the hotel, and police made a forced entry and arrested him.

Castillo is currently booked in Salt Lake County Jail on the charges previously stated and is awaiting trial.

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
