I’m not able to sleep…it’s after 3am…so here I am on reddit, asking random movie questions.
What are some movie scenes that have stuck with you, or made you unexpectedly uncomfortable (as in, that’s not the part of the movie you thought would bother you, or you didn’t expect a part that would bother you to even be in the movie you picked to watch)?
Here are a few I can think of right now but I’m sure there are others that will pop back up to haunt me from time to time…
The woman screaming after jumping out of the window in The Lobster. I actually almost shut the movie off at that point.
The sound of the crowd after being swallowed by Jean Jacket in Nope. That mix of glee and terror. (And now whenever I have my windows open in summer, and hear kids in the schoolyard near my house, it reminds me of that… which makes it even more unsettling).
The opening of Midsommar (fyi… I hate the rest of that movie… but that opening. Wow. …..I hated Hereditary too, but it also had a killer opening that made me super uneasy….I will probably get sassed for not liking them but oh well. Maybe i didnt like them because both openings were so intensely uncomfortable that the rest felt flat?).
I realize all of these things are meant to be unsettling, but I’ve seen lots of unsettling things in movies that didn’t stick with me like these do.
I hope I’m making sense, it’s 3:40am.
