Best cross platform games 2024

What are the best cross platform games? Crossplay games really are the holy grail of gaming, and they weren’t particularly all that common until a few years ago. Nowadays, there are plenty of online experiences you can jump into with friends, regardless of what platform you’re playing on.

The great thing about the best PC games featuring crossplay is that there’s a lot less organization involved. We’ve all experienced how difficult it can be to wrangle a group of friends together to try out a new game, so this way, you won’t have to worry about who’s playing on what platform. Here are our picks for the best crossplay games on PC in 2024. We’ve included horror gamesFPS games, and other genres for the definitive list of the very best games that you can play with your friends on other platforms.

Here are the best cross-platform games:

War Thunder

If you like war simulation games, then War Thunder is one that you’ll definitely want to check out. This is a game that sees you doing battle in tanks, warships, and planes/helicopters, on land, sea, or in the clouds, respectively. Though you can’t have the different types of vehicles in combat against one another, the three different types of battle make for a great deal of variety, with each of them giving you a completely unique style of gameplay with totally different strategies.

There’s a huge selection of different maps, with each one being based on historic locations where actual battles were fought. The maps help give the game even more variety, with different techniques working differently depending on where you’re fighting. With a huge player base and new content added all the time, it’s easy to see why so many people stick with it. If you want some guidance going in, read our guides on the best tier 1 tanks and the best tier 1 planes.

War Thunder supports crossplay across PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

Enlisted

We count Enlisted as both one of the best WW2 games and one of the best war games overall. So what makes it so special? Well, while a lot of FPS games have you working as a solo killer, gunning down your foes as a one-person army, Enlisted actually puts you in charge of your own little squad. With a team of AI soldiers at your disposal, it’s up to you to ensure that they are effectively deployed.

It has a much larger strategic aspect than many other shooting games, making it uniquely appealing. Different soldiers can do different things on the battlefield, and if one of them is killed, you can take control of one of the others. Most players are going to find themselves drawn to one particular soldier class, and then you’re probably going to find yourself working hard to ensure that they survive. Playing online against players who have all cultivated their own techniques makes for a challenging and enjoyable experience.

Enlisted supports crossplay across PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

World of Tanks

This is a game about hopping into tanks, driving around, and blowing up other players in tanks. It’s a simple premise, but one that you can get hours of fun out of. History buffs will also appreciate the fact that the various tanks in the game are all actual models that have been used by various nations at different times. You can actually learn quite a lot from it, which is why we gave it a spot in our best educational games list.

But if you just like tank games and aren’t keen on having a digital history lesson, don’t worry, those bits are all optional extras. If you just want to have fun trundling around in a tank, then you can definitely do so. It’s never hard to find a game, and it has fun crossover events from times, with things like Terminator, Warhammer, and much more. There are tons of different maps based on real-world locations and even special ones that, for example, let you do battle on the moon. The developers have done a lot with the simple premise at its heart. Read our World of Tanks guide for help getting started in this game.

World of Tanks’ crossplay is a bit complicated. There are three versions of the game: the PC version, the console version (for PlayStation and Xbox), and the handheld version (World of Tanks: Blitz), and one account can be shared across all three versions. The PC version is not crossplay, though you can play the handheld version on PC, allowing crossplay with Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android, while the console version has crossplay for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact is a free-to-play MMO, with gameplay inspired by Breath of the Wild. It’s available on most platforms, even mobile, and there’s full crossplay between them. Whether you want to focus on combat, or on exploring the world’s realms with your friends, there are hundreds of hours of content in Genshin Impact.

At its heart, there’s a story that you’ll easily spend 30 hours on, but there’s so much more to it than that. There are loads of Genshin Impact characters to unlock through the game’s gacha mechanics, and you can have hours of fun just mucking about in the world when playing cooperatively with your friends. Then there are all the different Genshin Impact weapons to collect, and the different play-styles that they prompt. If you want to, you can spend on in-game currencies, if not, you can play the majority of the game without spending a single cent. Perfect for anime fans and those who enjoy getting to know an eclectic cast of characters.

Genshin Impact supports crossplay across PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, iOS, and Android.

Best cross-platform games: Minecraft. Image shows a house created in the game, surrounded by sheep and cherry blossoms.

Minecraft

Minecraft is available on pretty much every platform imaginable, and you can play the game with players across all of them. Whether you want to play survival mode, fending off monsters and mining to create progressively better tools and weapons, or jump into creative mode to build dazzling creations with your friends, what you get out of Minecraft is pretty much only limited by your own imagination. Take a look at our list of the best Minecraft builds for a look at some of the coolest things people have made in the game.

Things get even more interesting when you put Minecraft mods into the mix, but unfortunately, that’s one aspect of the game that isn’t actually cross-platform. Still, it’s beautiful to imagine PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, and mobile gamers coming together to build a new world together – isn’t that what the spirit of cross-platform is really all about? Just make sure you all buy the Bedrock Edition of the game, and you’ll be able to party up regardless of the platform you’re playing on.

Minecraft supports crossplay across PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.

Best cross-platform games: Destiny 2. Image shows the game's star.

Destiny 2

Destiny 2 can be a pretty daunting game to get into, given that it’s been updated and expanded upon many times since launch. The base game is currently free to play, however, and once you get past the rather confusing onboarding, there are very few online shooters that measure up to it in terms of sheer fun.

Part of its appeal is the vast range of Destiny 2 classes and subclasses which each lend themselves to different strategies on the battlefield. Check out our guide on the best Destiny 2 builds for an idea of how far you can go in customizing the perfect warrior.

Jumping into a raid with a group of friends is an absolute blast, and thanks to its deep crossplay options, you can create parties with friends on a wide variety of platforms. With classes being as distinct from each other as there are, you’ll each be able to fill different roles in the team, too. Recently, Destiny 2 has been gearing up for the Final Shape release date, which will conclude the main overarching story.

Destiny 2 supports crossplay on PC, Stadia, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

Best cross-platform games: Among Us. Image shows a crewmate being killed by an alien imposter.

Among Us

Among Us was the surprise hit sensation of 2020, and it’s still popular to this day, for good reason. If you can get a group of friends involved, you can crossplay on pretty much any device. There have been new maps and modes added since launch, like hide and seek, which was a much-requested addition around the time the game blew up in popularity. Among Us is part social deduction, part blame game, and part murder simulator.

For the very few who haven’t heard of it (or, at least, don’t know what it’s about), this is a game where you play as characters on a spaceship, with one of you secretly being an evil alien imposter. You periodically have to nominate somebody as the imposter, based on clues they leave, and then vote on who to eject into space. Whether you’re the killer, or just trying to figure out who the killer is, there’s a lot of fun to be had here. It’s surprisingly tense and can be picked up at a low price, even when it’s not on sale. Just make sure you play a few practice rounds on your own to get a grasp of the game first.

Among Us supports crossplay on PC, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

Best cross-platform games: Call of Duty: Warzone 2. Image shows a soldier on the battlefield.

Call of Duty: Warzone

This is COD’s spin on the battle royal formula. With the launch of the latest Warzone season, players have three maps to play on: Rebirth IslandUrzikstan, and Fortune Island. Don’t forget to check out our guides to see an overview of each Warzone map for anybody who would like to learn more about it.

Free to play, and constantly updated with new features, it’s easy to see how it’s managed to capture the interest of longtime COD fans. Meanwhile, if you’ve never played a COD game before in your life, but have played Fortnite and thought that you’d like to see a more realistic spin on the formula, then this is something you’re going to want to play. Also, check out our Warzone guns guide for insights into the best choice of weapons while you play.

Call of Duty: Warzone supports crossplay on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

Tekken 8

Bandai Namco did a great job improving on Tekken 7 to take things up to a whole new level in the sequel, but arguably the changes to the netcode and multiplayer make the biggest difference to the player base. No matter what platform you’re playing Tekken 8 on, crossplay ensures you’re able to fight against several batches of players across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

The improved netcode also makes fighting across regions smoother than before, further widening the pool of players to battle against. Just like all fighting games, you can become a better player by checking out our Tekken 8 tier list to find out who the best characters are on the Tekken 8 roster.

Tekken 8 supports crossplay across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.

Best cross-platform games: Fortnite. Image shows All-Might in the game, holding a weapon.

Fortnite

You can’t go wrong with a free PC game, and you’d probably have to have been living under a rock not to have heard of Fortnite. Not only is it free to play, it also receives regular updates, sometimes as often as weekly. New weapons, map refreshes, and limited-time tie-ins with some of the biggest franchises in the world happen so frequently, that Fortnite can feel like a completely different game after you’ve spent even just a month away from it.

Fortnite put battle royale games on the map. At first, players were drawn to the idea of mixing third-person shooting action with the ability to create your own constructions to aid you in battle, and while this remains an appeal, nowadays, lots of people are drawn in by the sheer mayhem of a game that crosses over so many popular characters.

Where else can you see My Hero Academia’s All Might, Horizon Zero Dawn’s Aloy, and Halo’s Master Chief all together? There are loads of great Fortnite skins. The game is always expanding, with new ways to play (such as the mode where it’s just shooting, no building) and something we recommend taking for a spin.

Fortnite supports crossplay on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

Best cross platform games: Diablo 4 Lilith stands with a red background and her black horns curled

Diablo 4

Diablo 4 is easily one of 2023’s biggest and best AAA releases on PC. While it can be played solo, it really comes into its own when you have a squad to run with. This most recent entry into the iconic action RPG adopts a seasonal structure, meaning there’s new content every few months or so, on top of the hefty main campaign offered in the base game.

If you do end up playing Diablo 4 with a group of friends, make sure to try out a variety of Diablo 4 classes and builds. That way you can complement each other by serving a different role in battle. No pressure though, as you can always respec later down the line.

Diablo 4 supports crossplay on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.

The best cross platform games include Rocket League which has brightly coloured vehicles playing an oversized game of soccer

Rocket League

If you’re looking for a game that’s both fun and complex, Rocket League is a great option. It’s been on the scene for a while now and has largely stayed true to the experience that gave it its success at launch. There have been some tweaks, however, primarily in tie-ins with big-name franchises, and in the selection of cars available.

This crossplay title is incredible to play with friends, especially those who have a healthy competitive streak. What seems at first to be a fairly straightforward game opens up after a few hours, revealing a deep and rewarding gameplay loop that’s seriously addictive.

Rocket League supports crossplay across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

The best cross platform games include Apex legends where the character is seen in a purple outfit reaching across the map

Apex Legends

Apex Legends often finds itself right near the top of best battle royale games lists across the web. There are many reasons for this, though it mostly boils down to just how good the gameplay feels. In terms of FPS games, Apex Legends is lightning fast, with an iconic and diverse cast of characters that each offer a slightly different playstyle.

It’s free too, and features full crossplay so you can jump in with pals on PC and console. Just make sure to check out our Apex Legends tier list before you decide on which Legend to use.

Apex Legends supports crossplay across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.

Street Fighter 6

Capcom usually impresses fighting game fans with their Street Fighter games, but Street Fighter 6 has broken new ground with its intuitive simplified control scheme that makes it easy for newcomers to play. Yet in some ways, this is the most complex Street Fighter in some time, featuring a range of new mechanics and systems to make each fight as exciting as it can be.

Street Fighter 6 has something for everyone, whether you’re a complete fighting game beginner who wants to dip their toes into the genre, or an arcade legend ready to take on the best of the best. There’s even a fully-fledged story mode that takes players from fighting on the street to playing against the strongest players in tournaments. Give our Street Fighter 6 review a read to see what we thought of 2023’s best fighting game.

Street Fighter 6 supports crossplay across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.

The Finals

It takes a special game to disrupt the FPS space, but Embark Studios knew they were onto something when they kept experiencing server issues during the game’s beta periods. Developed by a veteran team featuring several ex-Dice members, The Finals captivates players with its unique gameplay loop, forcing teams to collect as much cash as they can to win the game show.

In this 3v3v3 shooter, teams must work together to bank loose cash while taking down any nearby squads. The Finals features plenty of destructible environments, creating a range of opportunities for clever players to ambush rival groups. As a free-to-play game, the only thing you need to know before you jump into combat is what the best weapons and best loadouts are to start crushing your opponents immediately.

The Finals supports crossplay across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

EA Sports FC 24

EA used to treat football fans with PCs as second class citizens for years, forcing them to play the previous generation’s version of the game while console players got to experience a new engine. With EA Sports FC 24, PC players have finally been brought up to speed with their PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S counterparts, and with EA FC 24 crossplay enabled for most game modes, PC users finally have everything they’ve been asking for.

The most popular game mode in FC 24 has to be Ultimate Team, and this year EA has added women’s football to the mode. From the Women’s Super League in England, to the Frauen Bundesliga in Germany, the best women players from around the world are available alongside the men on the same pitch for the first time.

EA Sports FC 24 supports crossplay across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Long time Call of Duty PC players will remember the struggles of trying to find a multiplayer match one year after the game has launched. Luckily, this has stopped being a big problem since the Call of Duty games adopted crossplay, unifying the console and PC experiences to ensure everyone has people to play against. Sure, we can complain about the console player’s heavy aim assist which makes some fights feel unfair, but we’ll take this over playing in empty lobbies.

As you can tell from our less than glowing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 review, this entry was far from the best in the series. That being said, the multiplayer side of the game continues to be popular among fans, with Sledgehammer Games paying close attention to player feedback this year. MW3 deserves praise for its consistent updates, adding new content in the form of weapons and maps every few months without fail.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 supports crossplay across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Fall Guys

Fall Guys throws together up to 60 players to compete in a variety of Takeshi’s Castle-style mini games. This is one of the first games to break the console and PC divide, giving players a chance to take their account to different devices and carry on their progress. You know a game is good when it gets all three console manufacturers to play ball for the first time.

Fall Guys supports crossplay across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Multiversus

After a brief hiatus, Warner Bros’ Smash Bros-inspired brawler game has returned, alongside a host of new characters, maps, and tutorials. Whether you’re playing with a group of four, or you want to go head to head against your mate, Multiversus gives you the perfect arena to duke it out. Fight inside Batman’s Bat Cave, put your life on the line inside the Game of Throne’s Throne Room, and chill out in Finn and Jake’s Treefort from Adventure Time.

If you just want to dominate, we highly recommend checking out our Multiversus tier list to equip yourself with the best characters in the game. With characters like LeBron and Arya Stark available to pick from, the sheer variety in this game means that there’s something for everyone in this roster.

Multiversus supports crossplay across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
